Intel Core Ultra Processing for OBS Studio
The CPU handles the general-purpose processing surrounding an OBS production, including application logic, scene management, source processing, audio processing, browser sources, plugins, and other tasks that are not handled by dedicated hardware encoders.
CPU performance becomes increasingly important as a production becomes more complex or when OBS is running alongside other demanding applications. A streamer may simultaneously run a game, browser windows, chat applications, recording software, and production tools while OBS captures and composites the final broadcast.
The Intel Core Ultra platform provides substantial CPU performance for these concurrent workloads while also providing Intel media capabilities that can be used by compatible applications. For systems equipped with a discrete NVIDIA GPU, OBS generally uses NVENC for hardware encoding rather than Intel Quick Sync when appropriate.
GPU Performance for OBS Studio
The GPU serves two distinct purposes in an OBS Studio production: rendering the live scene and providing hardware video encoding. OBS can use GPU resources for rendering sources, effects, filters, game capture, compositing, and other graphics operations, while a supported hardware encoder handles the final video encoding.
GPU performance becomes particularly important when OBS is running alongside a GPU-intensive application such as a modern game. The game and OBS must share available graphics resources, so additional GPU headroom can help maintain game performance while OBS renders and captures the production.
GPU VRAM is relevant when a production uses large numbers of high-resolution sources, textures, browser sources, graphics, or GPU-intensive effects. However, VRAM capacity should not be confused with encoding performance itself; NVENC is a dedicated encoding engine within the GPU.
96GB DDR5 Memory for Complex OBS Productions
OBS Studio itself does not require large amounts of system memory. Additional RAM becomes valuable when the workstation is used for complex productions or when OBS runs alongside other demanding applications.
Large scene collections, browser sources, high-resolution media, multiple applications, game clients, editing software, chat applications, and production tools can all consume system memory. The Cloud Ninjas 96GB configuration provides substantial headroom for these concurrent workloads.
Cloud Ninjas Workstations for OBS Studio Intel Edition Specifications
OBS Studio can utilize CPU-based encoding, making CPU performance a critical factor. Strong multi-core and multi-threaded performance improves software encoding quality and efficiency, while good single-core performance enhances responsiveness when managing scenes, transitions, and plugins in real-time workflows.

GPU acceleration in OBS Studio is leveraged for hardware encoding and certain visual effects. A workstation GPU with dedicated encoding capabilities and sufficient VRAM improves streaming performance, reduces CPU load, and enables smoother high-resolution streaming. GPU acceleration is particularly beneficial for maintaining performance while running additional applications alongside OBS in professional workflows.

Network Performance for OBS Live Streaming
A powerful workstation cannot compensate for an inadequate or unstable internet connection. Live streaming requires sufficient upstream bandwidth for the selected resolution, frame rate, bitrate, and streaming platform.
Network reliability is also important because packet loss, connection instability, and congestion can cause dropped frames or interruptions even when the workstation itself has sufficient CPU and GPU performance.
For professional streaming environments, a wired Ethernet connection is generally preferred because it provides a more consistent network connection than wireless networking.
1080P, 1440P, and 4K OBS Streaming
OBS Studio can produce streams and recordings across a wide range of resolutions and frame rates. Increasing output resolution and frame rate increases the amount of video data that must be rendered and encoded, while complex scenes can add additional GPU and CPU workload.
The appropriate workstation configuration therefore depends on the complete production: output resolution, frame rate, encoder, bitrate, number of sources, game or application being captured, effects, and whether local recording occurs simultaneously.
A high-performance workstation provides additional headroom for demanding high-resolution productions without treating a particular resolution as a universal hardware requirement.
OBS Replay Buffer Workloads
OBS Studio's Replay Buffer continuously maintains a rolling recording buffer that can be saved when a user triggers the configured hotkey. This is particularly useful for gaming and live events where the user wants to save an event that occurred moments earlier without recording the entire session as a permanent file.
Replay Buffer workflows create continuous encoding and storage activity, making fast storage and hardware encoding valuable for long gaming sessions and high-resolution capture.
