The Dell PowerEdge R470 is a rackmount server with configuration of 8 or 16 EDSFF E3.S NVMe, 8 or 10 2.5-inch SATA or NVMe U.2/U.3 drives, or 4 3.5-inch SATA SSDs.There is an extra 3 NVMe E3.S slots on the backplane. This Dell PowerEdge R470 supports the following types of solid state drives: SATA, SAS and NVMe U.3/U.3/E3.S. The capacities supported by this server range from 120GB to 15.36TB and offers speeds of 3GB/s, 6GB/s, 12GB/s, 24GB/s, 16GT/s, and 32GT/s depending on the type of solid state drive. The max capacity configuration available for this server is 16x 15.36TB NVMe E3.S plus 3x 15.36TB NVMe E3.S. It is not advisable to mix the types of drives as the server will run inconsistent due to SSD drive speeds. If you want to maximize the capabilities of the Dell PowerEdge R470, choose one type of Solid State Drives to maintain consistency when running your server nodes.

Maximum total capacities for SATA drives is 7.68TB, 7.68TB for SAS and 15.36TB for NVMe of storage memory.

Speed of drives for the Dell PowerEdge R470 server range from: 3GB/s to 24GB/s for SATA, SAS and up to 32GT/s for NVMe SSDs. But they may clockdown depending on the type of SSD.
