Cloud Ninjas' Supermicro X9SCM Questions & Answers
- What sizes can you use for the Supermicro X9SCM?
The Supermicro X9SCM can be upgraded using 2 GB, 4 GB, and 8 GB UDIMM.
- What speeds are supported by the Supermicro X9SCM?
The Supermicro X9SCM can support 1066MH/s 1333MH/s, 1600MH/s, and 1866MH/s based on DIMM and configuration. (Note:1866MH/s will clock down to 1600MH/s)
- What types of RAM are accepted by the Supermicro X9SCM?
The Supermicro X9SCM supports DDR3 with ECC UDIMM only.
- What is ECC Registered Memory?
The Supermicro X9SCM does not support registered memory with ECC. ECC memory detects and corrects memory errors within the server environment. Registered (also called buffered) memory modules register between DRAM modules and the system's memory controller. ECC Registered Memory transfers less electrical load to your memory controller which makes it more stable and reliable.
- What is Unbuffered Memory?
The Supermicro X9SCM supports unbuffered memory with ECC. Unbuffered memory is memory that has no register between your DRAM and your system’s memory controller.
- What is Load Reduced Memory?
The Supermicro X9SCM does not support load reduced DIMM (LRDIMM). Load reduced DIMM is designed with a buffer chip (or chips) to replace the register to help minimize loading, the LRDIMM increases server system memory capacity and speed.
- Can I mix ECC Reg with ECC unbuffered or Non-ECC memory?
The Supermicro X9SCM supports the use of unbuffered memory with ECC. Mixing unbuffered memory with ECC and non-ECC memory may cause boot failure. The use of both unbuffered and registered memory is not recommended. It is recommended to use identical memory configuration in all channels.
- What is max configuration?
The Supermicro X9SCM allows the maximum configuration of 64 GB using eight 8 GB, quad rank UDIMM with ECC.
- How many memory channels per CPU?
The Supermicro X9SCM has a total of four slots which are numbered 1 through 4. DIMM that are electrically and thermally compatible with this model are recommended.
- How do I identify the start of the memory channel?
The Supermicro X9SCM requires that DIMM sockets only be populated based on the exact number of slots i.e., 1 through 4.
- Where can I order memory for my workstation?
Order your memory at https://cloudninjas.com/ by finding and selecting the memory package that is right for you.
- How soon will my RAM arrive?
Orders placed before 8 am are set for same day processing and shipping. Delivery times vary based on carrier and location.
- What is the warranty on memory for the workstation?
Cloud Ninjas offers a one-year warranty on fully tested, refurbished memory.
