Supermicro X10SAE Memory Configuration Guide

The Supermicro X10SAE is a Single Processor Motherboard with 4 DDR3 DIMM slots. There are two memory channels each managing two DIMM slots. This system can utilize up to four 8GB ECC/non-ECC UDIMMs for a maximum capacity of 32GB. Only ECC unbuffered and non-ECC unbuffered memory is accepted by the X10SAE. Low voltage modules are not supported by this motherboard. ECC unbuffered memory cannot be mixed with non-ECC unbuffered memory as this can cause unwanted issues such as boot failure. On the other hand, different speeds can be mixed, but this all modules will run at the same speed at the slowest module installed. We recommend that all memory in your X10SAE motherboard be matching modules. We only ship matching modules to make sure that your system will function as intended.

   The Supermicro X10SAE can support memory speeds of 1066MT/s,1333MT/s, and 1600MT/s. (1866MT/s will clock down to 1600MT/s)

4. What is ECC Registered Memory?
   ECC memory has the ability to fix memory errors in your server system. Registered (also called buffered) memory modules register between DRAM modules and the system's memory controller. ECC Registered Memory relieves stress off of the memory controller by decreasing the electrical load which increases its stability. The Supermicro X10SAE Motherboard does not support ECC Registered memory.
   
   
5. What is Unbuffered Memory?
   Unbuffered memory has no register between the DRAM and the system’s memory controller. Unbuffered memory can be more efficient than registered memory since there is a direction connection from the DRAM to the memory controller. The Supermicro X10SAE Motherboard supports unbuffered memory with ECC and without ECC. 
   
   
6. What is Load Reduced Memory?
   Load reduced memory (LRDIMM) modules are designed with a buffer chip (or chips) to replace the register to help minimize loading. the LRDIMM increases server system memory capacity and speed. The Supermicro X10SAE Motherboard does not support load reduced memory. 
   
   
7. Can I mix ECC Reg with ECC unbuffered or Non-ECC memory?
   It is never recommended to mix different memory types. Mixing unbuffered memory with ECC and non-ECC memory may cause boot failure. The use of both unbuffered and registered memory is never recommended. It is best practice to use identical memory configuration in all channels.
   
   
8. What is max configuration?
   The Supermicro X10SAE allows a maximum memory configuration of 32GB of ECC unbuffered or non-ECC unbuffered memory.
