Cloud Ninjas' HPE ProLiant DL360 Gen9 Memory Upgrade Tips
- The total number of DIMM slots for the HPE ProLiant DL360 Gen9 is 24.
- In order for 64GB DDR4 ECC Registered Server Memory to work, the DL360 Gen9 requires an updated BIOS and Intel V4 processors.
- The HPE ProLiant DL360 Gen9 will support 4GB, 8GB, 16GB, 32GB, 64GB or 128GB DDR4 dual in-line memory modules (DIMM).
- This server will also support 32GB, 64GB or 128GB Load Reduced Modules (LRDIMM).
- NVDIMMs are only supported on factory configured servers with E5-2600 v4 processors. NVDIMM cannot be mixed with LRDIMM.
- The Maximum amount of RAM for Load Reduced memory (LRDIMM) is 3TB.
- When purchasing new memory it is best to purchase identical memory modules to what your system already has. Your current server configuration will determine the supported DIMM type and speed.
- This server does not allow you to mix 128GB DIMM with any other size DIMM.
- Think Long Term! Purchase the maximum amount that your HPE ProLiant DL360 Gen9 can hold and avoid wasting time and money on modules you won't be able to use if you upgrade again.

- What speeds are supported by the HPE ProLiant DL360 Gen9 Server?
The HPE ProLiant DL360 Gen9 Server can support up to 2400 MT/s.
- What types of RAM are accepted by the HPE ProLiant DL360 Gen9 Server?
The HPE ProLiant DL360 Gen9 Server supports RDIMM and LRDIMM.
- What is ECC Registered Memory?
The HPE ProLiant DL360 Gen9 Server supports registered memory with ECC. ECC memory detects and corrects memory errors within the server environment. Registered (also called buffered) memory modules register between DRAM modules and the system's memory controller. ECC Registered Memory transfers less electrical load to your memory controller which makes it more stable and reliable.
- What is Unbuffered Memory?
The HPE ProLiant DL360 Gen9 Server does not support unbuffered memory with ECC. Unbuffered memory is memory that has no register between your DRAM and your system’s memory controller.
- What is Load Reduced Memory?
The HPE ProLiant DL360 Gen9 Server supports load reduced DIMM (LRDIMM). Load reduced DIMM is designed with a buffer chip (or chips) to replace the register to help minimize loading, the LRDIMM increases server system memory capacity and speed.
- Can I mix ECC Reg with ECC unbuffered or Non-ECC memory?
The HPE ProLiant DL360 Gen9 Server does not support the use of both unregistered and registered memory with ECC or the use of non-ECC memory. It is recommended to use identical memory configuration in all channels.
- What is max configuration?
The HPE ProLiant DL360 Gen9 Server allows the standard maximum configuration of 768 GB using twenty-four 32 GB RDIMM and can be upgraded to 3 TB using twenty-four 128 LRDIMM. Get your kit at https://cloudninjas.com/.
- How many memory channels per CPU?
The HPE ProLiant DL360 Gen9 Server has four channels which house twelve DIMM slots per processor at three DIMM per channel in a dual processor configuration.
- How do I identify the start of the memory channel?
The HPE ProLiant DL360 Gen9 Server requires that DIMM sockets be populated beginning with the first white channel.
- Where can I order memory for my server?
Order your memory at https://cloudninjas.com/ by finding and selecting the memory package that is right for you.
- How soon will my RAM arrive?
Orders placed before 8 am are set for same day processing and shipping. Delivery times vary based on carrier and location.
