The HPE ProLiant DL320e Gen8 v2 is a single CPU system with two memory channels each containing two DDR3 DIMM slots. The DL320e Gen8 v2 only accepts ECC unbuffered memory as well as both standard (1.5v) and low (1.35v) voltage modules. You cannot mix different memory types. Modules with different speeds can be mixed, but they will operate at the speed of the slowest module installed. To prevent unwanted issues, it is best to have all memory inside your DL320e Gen8 v2 be matching. We put together our upgrade kits with this in mind and only ship matching kits.

4. What is ECC Registered Memory?
   ECC memory has the ability to fix memory errors in your server system. Registered (also called buffered) memory modules register between DRAM modules and the system's memory controller. ECC Registered Memory relieves stress off of the memory controller by decreasing the electrical load which increases its stability. The HPE DL320e Gen8 v2 Server does not support ECC Registered memory.
   
   
5. What is Unbuffered Memory?
   Unbuffered memory has no register between the DRAM and the system’s memory controller. Unbuffered memory can be more efficient than registered memory since there is a direction connection from the DRAM to the memory controller. The HPE DL320e Gen8 v2 Server supports unbuffered memory with ECC and without ECC. 
   
   
6. What is Load Reduced Memory?
   Load reduced memory (LRDIMM) modules are designed with a buffer chip (or chips) to replace the register to help minimize loading. the LRDIMM increases server system memory capacity and speed. The HPE DL320e Gen8 v2 Server does not support load reduced memory. 
   
   
7. Can I mix ECC Reg with ECC unbuffered or Non-ECC memory?
   It is never recommended to mix different memory types. Mixing unbuffered memory with ECC and non-ECC memory may cause boot failure. The use of both unbuffered and registered memory is never recommended. It is best practice to use identical memory configuration in all channels.

   The HPE ProLiant DL320e Gen8 v2 Server allows a maximum configuration of 32GB using four 8GB ECC unbuffered modules.
