Dell PowerEdge T710 Memory Configuration
The T710 is a Dual Processor system with 9 DIMM slots per CPU. There are three memory channels per CPU. Each memory channel manages three DIMM slots. This means the T710 will only support two Quad Rank or two unbuffered DIMMs per channel. Along with standard RDIMMs and UDIMMs, the T710 also supports options for low voltage. Different speeds can be mixed but the modules will function at the slowest speed installed.
Cloud Ninjas' Dell PowerEdge T710 Memory Upgrade Tips
- The Dell PowerEdge T710 was designed with eighteen memory slots and two CPU sockets.
- Each CPU controls nine DIMM slots, split into 3 memory channels, with each channel supporting 3 memory sockets.
- The same goes for Unbuffered DIMMs. The T710 can only govern two UDIMMs per memory channel, which means 12 UDIMMs total per system.
- The PowerEdge T710 is compatible with 1GB, 2GB, 4GB, 8GB, 16GB and 32GB ECC Registered (RDIMMs) Memory Modules.
- This server will also support 1GB, 2GB, 4GB or 8GB UDIMMs. The Maximum amount of unbuffered memory is 96GB (12 x 8GB).
- The Maximum amount of ECC Registered RAM the Dell PowerEdge T710 server can hold is 576GB (18 x 32GB).
- The T710 will manage up to 18 single or dual rank DIMMs, or up to 12 Quad Rank modules.
- Speed options for the PowerEdge T710 include: 1066 to 1866 MHz.
- Load reducing modules are not compatible with the T710.
- Only DDR3 memory will work. DDR2 and DDR4 modules are not compatible.
- Do NOT mix different memory types, this will result in errors.
- Desktop modules will not work inside a Dell T710 Server.
- Buy the maximum amount of RAM from Cloud Ninjas for your PowerEdge T710!
- To properly configure your system, install a minimum of three memory modules to initialize boot.

Cloud Ninjas' Dell PowerEdge T710 Questions & Answers
- What sizes can you use for the Dell PowerEdge T710 Server?
The Dell PowerEdge T710 Server can be upgraded using 1 GB and 2 GB UDIMM or 2 GB, 4 GB, 8 GB, 16 GB and 32 GB RDIMM.
For a 384 GB upgrade, get your kit at https://cloudninjas.com/.
- What speeds are supported by the Dell PowerEdge T710 Server?
The Dell PowerEdge T710 Server can support single rank and dual rank memory modules at speeds of 1067 or 1333 MHz and quad rank memory modules at 800 or 1067 MHz.
- What types of RAM are accepted by the Dell PowerEdge T710 Server?
The Dell PowerEdge T710 Server supports UDIMM and RDIMM.
- What is ECC Registered Memory?
The Dell PowerEdge T710 Server supports registered memory with ECC. ECC memory detects and corrects memory errors within the server environment. Registered (also called buffered) memory modules register between DRAM modules and the system's memory controller. ECC Registered Memory transfers less electrical load to your memory controller which makes it more stable and reliable.
- What is Unbuffered Memory?
The The Dell PowerEdge T710 Server supports unbuffered memory with ECC. Unbuffered memory is memory that has no register between your DRAM and your system’s memory controller.
- What is Load Reduced Memory?
The Dell PowerEdge T710 Server does not support load reduced DIMM (LRDIMM). Load reduced DIMM is designed with a buffer chip (or chips) to replace the register to help minimize loading, the LRDIMM increases server system memory capacity and speed.
- Can I mix ECC Reg with ECC unbuffered or Non-ECC memory?
The Dell PowerEdge T710 Server does not support the use of both unregistered and registered memory with ECC or the use of non-ECC memory. It is recommended to use identical memory configuration in all channels.
- What is max configuration?
The Dell PowerEdge T710 Server allows the standard maximum configuration of up to 288 GB of memory using 18 x 16 GB UDIMM or RDIMM. For a 384 GB upgrade, get your 32 GB kit at https://cloudninjas.com/.
- How many memory channels per CPU?
The Dell PowerEdge T710 Server has 18 memory sockets which are split into three channels of nine sockets. Each set accommodates one processor. Single and dual rank RDIMM are supported up to 144 GB and quad rank RDIMM are supported up to 96 GB.
- How do I identify the start of the memory channel?
The Dell PowerEdge T710 Server requires module installation in each channel to start with the white release levers.
- Where can I order memory for my server?
Order your memory at https://cloudninjas.com/ by finding and selecting the memory package that is right for you.
- How soon will my RAM arrive?
Orders placed before 8 am are set for same day processing and shipping. Delivery times vary based on carrier and location.
- What is the warranty on memory for the server?
Cloud Ninjas offers a one-year warranty on fully tested, refurbished memory.
- Is this RAM Dell labeled or Dell branded? No. The memory shipped from Cloud Ninjas is compatible with your Dell system. However, it will not have a Dell sticker. We ship major brands such as Samsung, Hynix and Micron.
