Collection: Dell PowerEdge R630 Memory Upgrades
PowerEdge R630 RAM Upgrade
Need higher performance from your R630 server? Optimize your business cloud with the Dell PowerEdge R630 server by upgrading the memory to maximize speed and performance. The easiest way to speed up your system is through a simple RAM upgrade. The R630 is the most popular 1U server from Dell's 13th Generation. Based on DDR4 memory, this server has 24 DIMMs slots and dual Intel processors. Speeds include 2133, 2400 and 2666MT/s. Do note that 2400MT/s is the true fastest speed and 2666 will operate at 2400MT/s. There are two memory types: ECC Registered and Load Reduced. DIMMs sizes depend on type of RAM. RDIMMs support 4GB, 8GB, 16GB and 32GB. LRDIMMs support 16GB, 32GB and 64GB. LRDIMMs have twice the scalability over RDIMMs. Max configuration is 768GB (24 x 32GB) with RDIMMs and 1.5TB (24 x 64GB) with LRDIMMs. Designed with high-density and advanced memory management in mind, the Dell PowerEdge R630 server can manage complicated virtualization.

Dell PowerEdge R630 Memory Configuration Guide
The R630 is a Dual Intel Processor server with 24 DIMMs total. There are 12 DIMM slots per CPU. There are four memory channels per CPU. Each memory channel controls three DIMM slots. White is the first slot in the channel. Black is the second slot in the channel. Green is the final slot in the channel. In general, you want an even distribution of your DIMMs across the memory channels. Always start your memory configuration with the first DIMM slot in the channel. By spreading your DIMMs evenly across each memory channel, you will maximize the overall performance. The Dell PowerEdge R630 supports two types of memory: ECC Registered, RDIMM, and Load Reduced, LRDIMM. Speeds include 2133, 2400 and 2666MT/s. 2666 will operate at 2400 speed. Sizes include 4GB, 8GB, 16GB, 32GB and 64GB. Note: only LRDIMMs support 64GB DIMMs. You cannot mix LRDIMMs and RDIMMs inside the Dell R630. Different speeds can be mixed, but we do not recommend and the modules will operate at the slowest speed. We only ship matching memory kits.
Cloud Ninjas' Dell PowerEdge R630 Memory Upgrade Tips
- There are 24 DIMM slots inside the Dell PowerEdge R630 server.
- This system is based on DDR4 memory. All modules are 1.2V (standard voltage)
- Speed options include: 2133MT/s, 2400MT/s and 2666MT/s. Note: 2666MT/s will clock down to the true fastest speed of 2400MT/s.
- There are two types of compatible memory: ECC Registered, also known as RDIMM, as well as Load Reduced, also known as LRDIMM.
- DIMM sizes depend on memory type. ECC Registered supports DIMM sizes of 4GB, 8GB, 16GB or 32GB DDR4.
- Whereas Load Reduced Modules DIMM sizes will be 16GB, 32GB or 64GB DDR4.
- LRDIMM has an advantage as far as higher scalability for the R630.
- The max memory capacity for ECC Registered DIMMs inside the Dell R630 is 768GB via 24 x 32GB 2400MT/s ECC Reg server memory upgrade.
- The true maximum amount of RAM the Dell PowerEdge R630 server can hold is 1.5TB (24 x 64GB) of Load Reduced server memory.
- 64GB ECC Reg DIMMs are not compatible with the PowerEdge R630.
- ECC unbuffered server memory is not supported by the R630 server.
- There are 8 memory channels total. 4 memory channels per CPU. 3 DIMMs per memory channel.
- When purchasing new memory, we recommend buying identical, matching memory modules. We ship and endorse matching upgrade kits.
- Think Long Term! Purchase the maximum 1.5TB kit that your Dell PowerEdge R630 can support. Contact Cloud Ninjas for more information.

Cloud Ninjas' Dell PowerEdge R630 Questions Answers
- What sizes can you use for the Dell PowerEdge R630 Server?
This depends on the type of memory. The Dell PowerEdge R630 Server can be upgraded using 4GB, 8GB, 16GB or 32GB ECC Registered RDIMMs. Whereas, load reduced would be 16GB, 32GB or 64GB DDR4 LRDIMMs.
Get your 768GB RDIMM kit or 1.5TB LRDIMM kit from Cloud Ninjas.
- What speeds are supported by the Dell PowerEdge R630 Server?
The Dell PowerEdge R630 Server can support memory modules at speeds of 2133, 2400 or 2666MT/s. Please do know in advance, 2666 MT/s will function at 2400 MT/s which is the actual fastest speed.
- What types of RAM are accepted by the Dell PowerEdge R630 Server?
The Dell PowerEdge R630 server supports two types of memory: DDR4 ECC Registered RDIMM and DDR4 Load Reduced LRDIMM. ECC Unbuffered DIMMs not compatible with the R630.
- What is ECC Registered Memory? Does the Dell R630 accept ECC Reg?
Yes. The Dell PowerEdge R630 server supports DDR4 ECC registered memory. ECC memory detects and corrects memory errors within the server environment. Registered (also called buffered) memory modules register between DRAM modules and the system's memory controller. ECC Registered Memory transfers less electrical load to your memory controller which makes it more stable and reliable.
- What is ECC Unbuffered Memory? Does the PER630 support ECC UDIMMs?
No. The Dell PowerEdge R630 Server does not support unbuffered memory with ECC. Unbuffered memory is memory that has no register between your DRAM and your system’s memory controller.
- What is Load Reduced Memory? Will LRDIMMs work inside my Dell PowerEdge R630 server?
Yes. The Dell PowerEdge R630 Server does support load reduced DIMM (LRDIMM). Load reduced DIMM is designed with a buffer chip (or chips) to replace the register to help minimize loading, the LRDIMM increases server system memory capacity and speed. Hyper-cloud DIMM (HCDIMM or HDIMM) is considered load reduced memory which is 240-pin, 72 bit wide. LRDIMMs are different from Low Voltage DIMMs (LVDIMMs).
- Can I mix ECC Reg with Load Reduced memory?
No. The Dell PowerEdge R630 Server does not support the use of both LRDIMMs and ECC registered memory at the same time. It is recommended to use identical memory configuration in all channels.
- What is max memory configuration for the Dell R630?
This depends on the type of RAM. The Dell PowerEdge R630 server supports a maximum configuration of 768 GB using twenty-four 32 GB DDR4 ECC Reg RDIMM. Or the R630 can be upgraded to 1.5 TB using twenty-four 64GB DDRR4 quad rank load reduced LRDIMM. Buy your memory upgrade kits from Cloud Ninjas.
- How many memory channels does the R630 server have?
The Dell PowerEdge R630 server has 8 memory channels across 2 processors. This means there are four channels per CPU, and 3 DIMM per channel.
- How do I identify the start of the memory channel?
The Dell PowerEdge R630 Server, requires memory to be installed beginning with the first white socket, then black socket and then green socket. A is the first channel. B is the second channel and so forth. Dell has color coded the DIMM slots and labeled the motherboard to make it easy to identify. Refer to technical guide link above for more details.
- Where can I order memory for my Dell PowerEdge R630 server?
Order your memory upgrades right here on this page by finding and selecting the memory kit that is right for you. If you prefer another method, then please reach out to our sales team. We are here to help.
- How soon will my R630 RAM arrive?
Orders placed before 8 am are set for same day processing and shipping. Delivery times vary based on carrier and location.
- What is the warranty on memory for the R630 server?
