Dell PowerEdge C6220 II Memory Configuration
The C6220 II is a Dual Processor system with 8 DIMM slots per CPU. There are four memory channels per CPU. Each memory channel manages two DIMM slots. Along with standard RDIMMs and UDIMMs, the C6220 II also supports options for low voltage or load reduced LRDIMMs. You cannot mix different memory types. Different speeds can be mixed but the modules will function at the slowest speed installed.
Cloud Ninjas' Dell PowerEdge C6220 II Memory Upgrade Tips
- The total number of DIMMS for the C6220 II is 16 slots.
- The system supports 4GB, 8GB, 16GB or 32GB RDIMMs, 4GB UDIMMs, and it supports 32GB and 64GB LRDIMMs.
- The Maximum supported UDIMM memory is 64GB at 16 sticks 4GB modules.
- The Maximum supported RDIMM memory is 512GB at 16 sticks 32GB modules.
- The Maximum supported LRDIMM memory is 1024GB at 16 sticks of 64GB modules.
- When purchasing new memory it is best to purchase identical memory modules to what your system already has. Your current server configuration will determine the supported DIMM type and speed.
- Speed options for the PowerEdge C6220 II are 1333MHz or 1600MHz depending on the type of memory configuration.
- Think Long Term! Purchase the maximum amount that your PowerEdge C6220 II can hold and avoid wasting time and money on modules you won't be able to use if you upgrade again.
- The total number of memory modules that you should have in your PowerEdge C6220 II should equal 4, 8, 12, or 16. To properly configure your system, install a minimum of four memory modules first.
Cloud Ninjas' Dell PowerEdge C6220 II Questions & Answers
- What sizes can you use for the Dell PowerEdge C6220 II Server?
The Dell PowerEdge C6220 II Server can be upgraded using 4 GB UDIMM, 4, 8,16 and 32 GB RDIMM or 32 GB LV RDIMM at 1333 or 1066 MT/s. Dual rank and quad rank, 32 GB RDIMM at 800 MT/s or 1600 MT/s may be utilized.
For a 512 GB upgrade, get your kit at https://cloudninjas.com/.
- What speeds are supported by the Dell PowerEdge C6220 II Server?
The Dell PowerEdge C6220 II Server can support memory modules at speeds of 800 MT/s, 1333 MT/s and 1600 MT/s.
- What types of RAM are accepted by the Dell PowerEdge C6220 II Server?
The Dell PowerEdge C6220 II Server supports UDIMM, RDIMM and LV RDIMM.
- What is ECC Registered Memory?
The Dell PowerEdge C6220 II Server supports registered memory and low voltage registered memory with ECC. ECC memory detects and corrects memory errors within the server environment. Registered (also called buffered) memory modules register between DRAM modules and the system's memory controller. ECC Registered Memory transfers less electrical load to your memory controller which makes it more stable and reliable.
- What is Unbuffered Memory?
The Dell PowerEdge C6220 II Server supports unbuffered memory with ECC. Unbuffered memory is memory that has no register between your DRAM and your system’s memory controller.
- What is Load Reduced Memory?
The Dell PowerEdge C6220 II Server does not support load reduced DIMM (LRDIMM). Load reduced DIMM is designed with a buffer chip (or chips) to replace the register to help minimize loading, the LRDIMM increases server system memory capacity and speed.
- Can I mix ECC Reg with ECC unbuffered or Non-ECC memory?
The Dell PowerEdge C6220 II Server does not support the use of both unregistered and registered memory with ECC or the use of non-ECC memory. It is recommended to use identical memory configuration in all channels.
- What is max configuration?
The Dell PowerEdge C6220 II Server supports the maximum configuration of up to 512 GB of standard memory using 16 x 32 GB RDIMM or LV RDIMM. For a 512 GB upgrade, get your 32 GB kit at https://cloudninjas.com/.
- How many memory channels per CPU?
The Dell PowerEdge C6220 II Server has 4 memory channels which allow up to 8 memory modules. There are two sets of eight slots per processor.
- How do I identify the start of the memory channel?
When installing memory for the Dell PowerEdge C6220 II Server requires installation of memory modules with processor 1, CHA_A1. Consult your Dell PowerEdge C6220 II Server hardware manual for a diagram of memory channel.
- Where can I order memory for my server?
Order your memory at https://cloudninjas.com/ by finding and selecting the memory package that is right for you.
- How soon will my RAM arrive?
Orders placed before 8 am are set for same day processing and shipping. Delivery times vary based on carrier and location.
- What is the warranty on memory for the server?
Cloud Ninjas offers a one-year warranty on fully tested, refurbished memory.
- Is this RAM Dell labeled or Dell branded? No. The memory shipped from Cloud Ninjas is compatible with your Dell system. However, it will not have a Dell sticker. We ship major brands such as Samsung, Hynix and Micron.
