The 6950 is a Quad Processor system with 4 DIMM slots per CPU. There are two memory channels per CPU. Each memory channel manages 4 DIMM slots. Different speeds can be mixed but the modules will function at the slowest speed installed.

• The total number of DIMM slots in the 6950 is 16.
• The PowerEdge 6950 will supports 512MB, 1GB, 2GB, and 4GB ECC Regiserted DIMMs. The Maximum amount of RAM the PowerEdge 6950 server can hold is 32GB (4GB x 8) (two-processor configurations) or 64GB (4GB x 16) (four-processor configurations).
• When purchasing new memory it is best to purchase identical memory modules to what your system already has. Your current server configuration will determine the supported DIMM type and speed.
• The PowerEdge 6950 runs on 667MHz memory.
• Think Long Term! Purchase the maximum amount that your PowerEdge 6950 can hold and avoid wasting time and money on modules you won't be able to use if you upgrade again.
• Memory modules must be installed in pairs, beginning with DIMM1 and DIMM2 (processor 1) DIMM5 and DIMM6 (processor 2), DIMM9 and DIMM10 (processor 3), and DIMM13 and DIMM14 (processor 4).
• The total number of memory modules that you should have in your PowerEdge 6950 should equal 4, 8, or 16. To properly configure your system, install a minimum of three memory modules first.
