Rebuild your business operations with the HP Z400 Workstation by upgrading its memory and experience the difference in your business productivity. Designed with power and performance for multimedia communications in mind, the HP Z400 Workstation can be upgraded up to a maximum of 48GB.  Note: You must have a 64Bit Operating System (OS) to utilize 8GB memory modules.  If you only have a 32Bit OS such as windows 7 to windows 10, then 8GB RAM would not work.   This machine will accept ECC Unbuffered memory.  ECC Registered or Load Reduced memory is not compatible.

    2. What speeds are supported by the HP Z400 Workstation?
      The HP Z400 Workstation can support 800, 1066, and 1333 MHz based on DIMM and configuration.

    3. What types of RAM are accepted by the HP Z400 Workstation?
      The HP Z400 Workstation supports DDR3 with ECC UDIMM only.

    4. What is ECC Registered Memory?
      The HP Z400 Workstation does not support registered memory with ECC. ECC memory detects and corrects memory errors within the server environment. Registered (also called buffered) memory modules register between DRAM modules and the system's memory controller. ECC Registered Memory transfers less electrical load to your memory controller which makes it more stable and reliable.

    5. What is Unbuffered Memory?
      The HP Z400 Workstation supports unbuffered memory with ECC. Unbuffered memory is memory that has no register between your DRAM and your system’s memory controller.

    6. What is Load Reduced Memory?
      The HP Z400 Workstation does not support load reduced DIMM (LRDIMM). Load reduced DIMM is designed with a buffer chip (or chips) to replace the register to help minimize loading, the LRDIMM increases server system memory capacity and speed.

    7. Can I mix ECC Reg with ECC unbuffered or Non-ECC memory?
      The HP Z400 Workstation supports the use of unbuffered memory with ECC. Mixing unbuffered memory with ECC and non-ECC memory may cause boot failure. The use of both unbuffered and registered memory is not recommended. It is recommended to use identical memory configuration in all channels.

    8. What is max configuration?
      The HP Z400 Workstation allows the maximum configuration of 48GB using 6 x 8GB ECC UDIMM.  HP's spec sheet will only show 24GB.  If you utilize a 64Bit operating system, then you can utilize 8GB DIMMs to max out at 48GB.
    9. How many memory channels per CPU?
      The HP Z400 Workstation has a total of 6 slots which are numbered 1 through 6. DIMM that are electrically and thermally compatible with this model are recommended. 

    10. How do I identify the start of the memory channel?
      The HP Z400 Workstation requires that DIMM sockets only be populated based on the exact number of slots i.e., 1 through 6.
