The Supermicro X9SCL is a Single Processor system with 4 DIMM slots. There are two memory channels each managing two DIMM slots. This system supports Standard Voltage (1.5v) and Low Voltage (1.35v) modules. You cannot mix the different types of memory and it is not recommended to mix the speeds.    Supermicro X9SCL does not support registered memory with ECC. ECC memory detects and corrects memory errors within the server environment. Registered (also called buffered) memory modules register between DRAM modules and the system's memory controller. ECC Registered Memory transfers less electrical load to your memory controller which makes it more stable and reliable.
   
   
5. What is Unbuffered Memory?
   The Supermicro X9SCL supports unbuffered memory with ECC and without ECC. Unbuffered memory is memory that has no register between your DRAM and your system’s memory controller.
   
   
6. What is Load Reduced Memory?
   The Supermicro X9SCL does not support load reduced DIMM (LRDIMM). Load reduced DIMM is designed with a buffer chip (or chips) to replace the register to help minimize loading, the LRDIMM increases server system memory capacity and speed.
   
   
7. Can I mix ECC Reg with ECC unbuffered or Non-ECC memory?
   The Supermicro X9SCL supports the use of unbuffered memory with ECC or without ECC. Mixing unbuffered memory with ECC and non-ECC memory may cause boot failure. The use of both unbuffered and registered memory is not recommended. It is recommended to use identical memory configuration in all channels.

   The Supermicro X9SCL allows the maximum configuration of 32 GB using four 8 GB UDIMM with ECC or without ECC.
   
   
9. How many memory channels per CPU?
   The Supermicro X9SCL has a total of 4 slots which are numbered 1 through 4.
