Supermicro X9SCL Memory Configuration Guide
The Supermicro X9SCL is a Single Processor system with 4 DIMM slots. There are two memory channels each managing two DIMM slots. This system supports Standard Voltage (1.5v) and Low Voltage (1.35v) modules. You cannot mix the different types of memory and it is not recommended to mix the speeds. We sell matching kits to ensure the maximum performance and stability every time.
Cloud Ninjas' Supermicro X9SCL Memory Upgrade Tips
- The Supermicro X9SCL has a total of four DDR3 DIMM slots
- This systems supports both ECC on Non-ECC UDIMMS
- Speeds Supported: 1066MH/s, 1333Mh/s, 1600MH/s, and 1866MH/s (Note: 1866MH/s will down clock to 1600MH/s)
- Supported Voltages: Standard Voltage (1.5v) and Low Voltage (1.35v)
- Supports 1GB, 2GB, 4GB, 8GB DDR3 UDIMM modules
- Capable of a maximum of 32GB
- DO NOT MIX DIFFERENT MEMORY TYPES
- This system has one CPU that controls two memory channel that each feature two DDR3 UDIMM slots
- Think Long Term! Purchase the maximum amount that your Supermicro X9SCL can hold and avoid wasting time and money on modules you won't be able to use if you upgrade again.
- The total number of memory modules that you should have in your Supermicro X9SCL should equal 2 or 4. To properly configure your system, install a minimum of two memory modules first.
Cloud Ninjas' Supermicro X9SCL Questions & Answers
- What sizes can you use for the Supermicro X9SCL?
The Supermicro X9SCL can be upgraded using 1GB, 2GB, 4GB, and 8GB UDIMM.
- What speeds are supported by the Supermicro X9SCL?
TheSupermicro X9SCL can support 1333MHz and 1600MHz based on DIMM and configuration. 1866MHz can be installed but will down clock to 1600MHz
- What types of RAM are accepted by the Supermicro X9SCL?
The Supermicro X9SCL supports DDR3 with ECC or without ECC UDIMM only.
- What is ECC Registered Memory?
Supermicro X9SCL does not support registered memory with ECC. ECC memory detects and corrects memory errors within the server environment. Registered (also called buffered) memory modules register between DRAM modules and the system's memory controller. ECC Registered Memory transfers less electrical load to your memory controller which makes it more stable and reliable.
- What is Unbuffered Memory?
The Supermicro X9SCL supports unbuffered memory with ECC and without ECC. Unbuffered memory is memory that has no register between your DRAM and your system’s memory controller.
- What is Load Reduced Memory?
The Supermicro X9SCL does not support load reduced DIMM (LRDIMM). Load reduced DIMM is designed with a buffer chip (or chips) to replace the register to help minimize loading, the LRDIMM increases server system memory capacity and speed.
- Can I mix ECC Reg with ECC unbuffered or Non-ECC memory?
The Supermicro X9SCL supports the use of unbuffered memory with ECC or without ECC. Mixing unbuffered memory with ECC and non-ECC memory may cause boot failure. The use of both unbuffered and registered memory is not recommended. It is recommended to use identical memory configuration in all channels.
- What is max configuration?
The Supermicro X9SCL allows the maximum configuration of 32 GB using four 8 GB UDIMM with ECC or without ECC.
- How many memory channels per CPU?
The Supermicro X9SCL has a total of 4 slots which are numbered 1 through 4.
- How do I identify the start of the memory channel?
The Supermicro X9SCL requires that DIMM sockets only be populated based on the exact number of slots i.e., 1 through 4.
- Where can I order memory for my workstation?
Order your memory at https://cloudninjas.com/ by finding and selecting the memory package that is right for you.
- How soon will my RAM arrive?
Orders placed before 8 am are set for same day processing and shipping. Delivery times vary based on carrier and location.
- What is the warranty on memory for the workstation?
Cloud Ninjas offers a one-year warranty on fully tested, refurbished memory.
