  • Dell has three different generations of PowerEdge 2950.
  • The Gen I & II servers do not accept 8GB sticks and top out at the Intel E5300 Series. Whereas Gen III systems can utilize E5400 CPUs and 8GB DDR2 DIMMs.
  • All three Generations of the Dell 2950 have eight DIMM slots.
  • The PowerEdge 2950 memory sizes include: 512MB, 1GB, 2GB, 4GB, and 8GB Fully Buffered DIMMs (FBD).
  • The Gen 1 & Gen 2 Dell PowerEdge 2950 servers max out at 32GB (4GB PC2-5300F x 8) Memory.
  • However, the Dell 2950 Gen 3 server can hold is 64GB (8GB PC2-5300F x 8) of Fully Buffered memory.
  • When purchasing new memory it is best to purchase identical memory modules. Cloud Ninjas will always ship matching sets of memory. Same P/Ns for each Upgrade Option.
  • Dell's PowerEdge 2950 can run as fast as 667MHz!
  • We recommend putting in 64GB of RAM for the 2950. At this point in time, it is the most feasible upgrade.
  • In order to boot your system, install a minimum of two memory modules first.
