The Z240 is a Single Processor system with 4 DIMM slots. There are two memory channels each managing two DIMM slots. Low Voltage modules are not compatible in this application. You cannot mix memory types nor is it recommended to mix memory speeds. We only offer matching kits to ensure maximum performance and stability.

   The HP Z240 Tower Workstation can be upgraded using  2 GB, 4 GB, and 8 GB UDIMM.

4. What is ECC Registered Memory?
   The HP Z240 Tower Workstation does not support registered memory with ECC. ECC memory detects and corrects memory errors within the server environment. Registered (also called buffered) memory modules register between DRAM modules and the system's memory controller. ECC Registered Memory transfers less electrical load to your memory controller which makes it more stable and reliable.
   
   
5. What is Unbuffered Memory?
   The HP Z240 Tower Workstation supports unbuffered memory with ECC and without ECC. Unbuffered memory is memory that has no register between your DRAM and your system’s memory controller.
   
   
6. What is Load Reduced Memory?
   The HP Z240 Tower Workstation does not support load reduced DIMM (LRDIMM). Load reduced DIMM is designed with a buffer chip (or chips) to replace the register to help minimize loading, the LRDIMM increases server system memory capacity and speed.
   
   
7. Can I mix ECC Reg with ECC unbuffered or Non-ECC memory?
   The HP Z240 Server does not support the use of both unregistered and registered memory with ECC or the use of non-ECC memory. It is recommended to use identical memory configuration in all channels.
   
   
8. What is max configuration?
   The HP Z240 Tower Workstation supports the use of unbuffered memory with ECC or without ECC. Mixing unbuffered memory with ECC and non-ECC memory may cause boot failure. The use of both unbuffered and registered memory is not recommended. It is recommended to use identical memory configuration in all channels. 
   
9. How many memory channels per CPU?
   The HP Z240 Tower Workstation allows the maximum configuration of 64 GB using four 16 GB, quad rank UDIMM with ECC.
   
   
10. How do I identify the start of the memory channel?
    The HP Z240 Tower Workstation requires that DIMM sockets only be populated based on the exact number of slots i.e., 1 through 4.
