Cloud Ninjas' Dell PowerEdge R510 Tips
Looking for a multi-purpose core application server? You have come to the right place. Dell’s R510 offers a number of applications from Virtualization to Storage. Many companies need a robust File or Print Server. The R510 is good for clustering, hosting or as a backup server.
The R510 comes with a number of different chassis options: 4Bay, 8Bay & 12Bay. The 8Bay and 12Bay support 2.5in or 3.5in SAS/SATA and Solid State Drives, while the 4Bay only supports 3.5in SAS/SATA hard drives. Cloud Ninjas recommend expanding out the 12Bay immediately to get the most out of your enterprise equipment. 4Bay option is scalable to 8TB. 8Bay up to 16TB and the 12Bay expands up to 24.6TB.
Similar to the R410, R610 and R710, the Dell PowerEdge R510 supports up to Two Dual Core, Quad Core or Six Core Intel CPUs. Utilizing the power for the Nehalem (55xx Series) and Westmere (56xx Series), the PowerEdge R510 is powered by top of the line Intel Processors utilizing Hyper-Threading Technology. We recommend utilizing two Hex Core X5680 (3.33GHz) Intel CPUs for maximum processing power. The best value CPU would be 2 x E5620 (2.4GHz).
The Dell R510 runs on DDR3 Unbuffered and ECC Registered. There are 8 DIMM slots with speed options running at 1333MHz, 1066MHz or 800MHz depending on the type of memory configuration. This refurbished server supports 1GB, 2GB, 4GB, 8GB and 16GB Module Sizes. Maximum RAM equals 128GB (16GB x 8). We recommending spending the extra money upfront to extend the longevity of your system with a 128GB Configuration.
