Cloud Ninjas' HP ProLiant DL360 G7 Tips
Applications
The HP ProLiant DL360 G7 is an ideal server for complex virtualization environments. The added memory capacity provides benefits specifically for virtualization or HPC. This system is easy to manage and one reason why SMBs select the DL360 G7 for everyday business uses such as Email Messaging, Storage and Printing. You could deploy this refurbished HP server for databases and firewalls. Generally speaking, the HP DL360 G7 is robust enough to handle all your daily tasks.
Storage
The DL360 G7 has increased storage potential over the 6th Generation. With the capability to scale up to 9.6TBs SAS in a 1U chassis. There are two chassis options: 4-Bay and 8-Bay chassis. 4-Bay comes standard and you can upgrade to an 8-Bay chassis. Both support 2.5in SFF SAS, SATA or SSD. SATA maxes out at 4TBs with 8 x 500GB configuration. SAS is 9.6TBs with 8 x 1.2TB configuration. Enjoy the options as the DL360 G7 offers scalability as your company grows.
Processing Power
This 7th Generation refurbished HP server supports many of the same Intel CPUs as the DL360 G6 offering scalability choices. The ProLiant DL360 G7 will accept two Quad Core or Hex Core CPUs from the Intel Westmere Product Family (5600 series). The letters in front of the Intel part number represent: “X” = High Performance ; “E” = Enterprise Performance ; “L” = Lower Wattage. We recommend the X5690 (3.46 GHz) for HPC or Virtualization. Max out your DL360 G7 with 2 x X5690!
Memory
Much like the DL360 G6, the 7th Generation runs on DDR3 RDIMMs (Registered) or UDIMMs (Unbuffered). This HP Server has 18 DIMM slots which runs three DIMM slots per each Channel and three Channels per each CPUs. The ProLiant DL360 G7 speeds include 1333MHz, 1066MHz or 800MHz and will depend on the memory and processor configuration. RDIMMs capacity will top out at 384GBs with a 12 x 32GB Configuration. Whereas UDIMMs max capacity is 48GB (12 x 4GB). Some companies like UDIMMs for energy efficiency but for virtualization we highly recommend starting with RDIMMs to make it easier and less expensive to upgrade in the future.
